Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Simon Mignolet will start in goal for Liverpool on Wednesday night in the EFL Cup against Chelsea and vowed to field a strong team.

Liverpool are due to entertain Chelsea in the cup tie at Anfield and, with no extra time, there will be a winner on the night due to penalties at the end of the 90 minutes.

Klopp is expected to make changes, but he is coy on how many, and is only prepared to confirm he will rest Alisson and play Mignolet between the sticks.

"The only position I will confirm after training is Simon – Simon will start", Klopp said at a press conference.

"For all the rest you will have to wait.

"But it will be a good team, believe me.

"Nothing else to say on line-up and who can have an opportunity."

Klopp was pressed for what other changes he might make against the Blues, but is unwilling to hand Chelsea any advanced notice.

"I don't think I get any information on the line-up of Chelsea, so why should I give any?" he added.

Liverpool are due to head to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea in a Premier League clash on Saturday after locking horns with the Blues in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening, under the floodlights at Anfield.
