Unai Emery has hailed Danny Welbeck after his brace helped Arsenal record a 3-1 win over Brentford to progress in the EFL Cup.

Arsenal went 1-0 up in the fifth minute at the Emirates Stadium when Welbeck got his head to a corner kick from Matteo Guendouzi.

The Gunners doubled their advantage in the 37th minute as Welbeck struck again with a left-footed effort.

However, Brentford gave themselves hope by reducing the deficit in the second half, with Alan Judge converting from a free kick in the 58th minute, guiding the ball over the wall and into the back of the net.

But the Championship side could not build on the goal and Arsenal killed off any hopes the visitors had via a late goal from Alexandre Lacazette to make it 3-1.

Emery delighted in the victory post-match, while also saluting Welbeck, who played a key role in the win.

"For us I am very happy. He gives us his quality and commitment every day", the Arsenal boss told his post-match press conference.

"I think he is helping the team and we want this."

Emery was also questioned on Welbeck's contract situation, along with that of his team-mate Aaron Ramsey.

"There are three things. The club, the player and the team", the Spaniard replied.

"I know they are in the last year and are speaking with the club.

"For me the focus is on each match. The commitments of the players Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck is very high."
