Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie has revealed that Steven Gerrard’s detailed instructions on certain aspects of his game have been helping him to learn his new role.

A defender by trade, the 20-year-old started his career at Rangers as a centre-back, but Gerrard is seeking to hone his skills as a defensive midfielder.

He has only played in a few games this season, but McCrorie has been deployed as the deep-lying midfielder and the youngster admits that he is hoping to learn as much as possible from one of the midfield legends of his time in the shape of Gerrard.

The 20-year-old also added that the Rangers boss is helping him understand the little nuances of his role and revealed that the rest of the coaching staff are also seeking to make slight adjustments to everyone’s game.

McCrorie told Rangers TV when asked about learning the midfield role from Gerrard: “I am learning as much as possible. If I can’t learn from him then I am struggling.

“The gaffer’s been great with me. Just little pointers and that’s the case with all the coaches as well.

“Just little pointers in training and little things that are going to help me and surely improve me.”

The youngster is keen to play a lot of football this season but admits that he has areas of his game that he needs to improve to become a regular at Rangers.

“I obviously want to play as many games as possible.

“But my game still needs consistency and maybe a bit of discipline as well.”
