Arsenal have confirmed that centre-back Rob Holding will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Holding was taken off the pitch on a stretcher after suffering a knee injury in the first half against Manchester United, a game that ended in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Following further tests, it has been revealed that the defender has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and now he will miss the rest of the season for the Gunners.

Holding is also unlikely to feature for the Gunners at the start of next season as he stares at a long and drawn out rehabilitation process on the sidelines.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Further to the injury sustained during our match at Manchester United on Wednesday night, we can confirm that Rob Holding has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

“Rob will undergo surgery to repair this in the coming days. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between six to nine months.

“Everyone at the club will now be working as hard as we can to ensure Rob is back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Holding has established himself as one of the first names on Arsenal’s team sheet under Unai Emery after starting the season on the bench.

He started the last ten league games for the Gunners, but is now expected to be out for the next six to nine months.
