Hertha Berlin sporting director Michael Preetz has admitted that the club have been looking for a player like Marko Grujic for some time, but is keen to simply enjoy the midfielder while his loan lasts.

Grujic is on loan for the season at Hertha Berlin from Liverpool and has quickly established himself as a key man at the Bundesliga club.

The former Red Star Belgrade player scored the only goal of the game in Hertha Berlin's 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, a result which means the capital club sit sixth and in a Europa League spot.

Hertha Berlin could look to keep Grujic on a longer term basis and Preetz admits the Liverpool midfielder is exactly what the club have long needed.

But the sporting director is in no mood at present to look beyond the end of the loan spell next summer.

"Marko is the combination of defensive and attacking player we have been looking for for a long time", Preetz told German magazine Kicker.

"He has a natural talent, is instinctively right and is a very, very good footballer.

"That was a wonderful performance from him.

"We should now be happy to see him playing for this season with us, and not think too much about what will happen next summer."

Preetz enjoys a good relationship with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, but in a sign of the Reds' faith in the young midfielder, he has a contract running until 2023 at Anfield.
