Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed the area that he believes will make Gers talent Glenn Middleton a more complete player in the future.

Middleton, who was promoted to the first team in the summer by Gerrard, has quickly established himself as a bright prospect in Scotland with his performances so far this season.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable start to the new campaign at Ibrox after already notching up 20 appearances in all competitions and directly contributing to nine goals.

However, Gerrard admits that the coaching staff at Rangers are still aiming at helping Middleton successfully fulfil his potential at Ibrox.

The former Liverpool captain also revealed the area that can add to Middleton’s game in order to make him a more complete player in the future.

“The biggest thing that has impressed me about Glenn is that wingers are not usually the best defenders”, Gerrard said on Rangers TV.

“Sometimes they are not switched on tactically so for us, the challenge is can we improve them in those areas.

“The areas where they are not really keen to spend much time on.

“So for me, I’m very interested in Glenn positionally, where he is in and out of possession.

“Is he going to work hard for second balls? Is he going to win headers and Is he going to compete? I want to try and help Glenn in that side of the game.

“Because if he gets that, that will complement his technical side and then we have a got a really, really good player on our hands.”

Middleton, who joined Rangers from Norwich City  in January, has been a regular for Scotland across various age groups, but is yet to make his debut at senior level.
