Josh Windass has applauded former Rangers team-mate Bruno Alves for a sublime free-kick he scored for Parma against Chievo Verona in Serie A at the weekend.

Alves scored in the 72nd minute from a dead-ball situation, curling the ball into the top corner, to draw his side level and ensure Parma's stay in the top half of the Serie A table.

Windass and Alves shared the dressing room at Rangers last season, and the Portuguese defender helped the club finish third in the Scottish Premiership table before leaving in the summer of 2018.

While Alves left the Gers to join Parma on a free transfer, Wigan Athletic signed Windass on a three-year deal.

Despite being 37, Alves is enjoying his spell at Parma, having made 15 appearances for the side in the Serie A so far this season and he has also chipped in with two goals.

Windass is also making the most of his spell away from Rangers and has made 18 appearances in the Championship so far this season.

The 24-year old has scored twice and assisted three goals so far for the Latics.

While Alves was scoring a sublime free-kick, Andy Halliday was also converting from a free-kick at the weekend in Rangers' 1-1 draw at Dundee.
