Noel Whelan has admitted he is often guilty of singling out Leeds United winger Ezgjan Alioski for criticism, but explained why he does so.

The former Whites attacker has been a regular critic of Alioski this season, at times being baffled by why the winger appears to be guaranteed a spot under Marcelo Bielsa.

Alioski has turned out in every one of Leeds' 21 Championship games this season, completing the full 90 minutes in all but five.

Whelan has been disappointed with Alioski's displays and is sure the attacker has much more in the tank, especially when it comes to making a difference in the final third.

The former White said on BBC Radio Leeds following the win over QPR: "I am guilty of singling out Alioski because I know he is a good player and there is more in him.

"I just don't think we've seen the performances that we know he can put in.

"I am not questioning his ability and his hard work off the field because when he is off the ball he does a tremendous amount of work protecting the left-back or right-back, whichever side he's playing on.

"But it's in the final third that I'm looking for a little bit more quality, a little bit more intelligence with his runs and decision making with his passing.

"He is an international player and at times it's hard enough to create these chances, and when you get these opportunities you've got to make them count", Whelan added.

With Alioski being handed regular playing time by head coach Bielsa, the Macedonian looks set to feature heavily for Leeds over the remainder of the season.

He has netted just three times in 22 games this season, a far cry from his performance in his final season in Swiss football with Lugano, when he scored 17 times.
