Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been insisting on signing a replacement before agreeing to sell AC Milan target Cesc Fabregas in January, it has been claimed in Italy.

Fabregas’ contract expires next summer and AC Milan have already been in touch with his entourage over taking him to Italy during the January transfer window.

The Spaniard has insisted he wants to see out his contract with Chelsea, but his advisors have been in touch with AC Milan officials.

The midfielder is considering the move to AC Milan, but it has been claimed Sarri could play a key role in deciding his future this winter.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, the Chelsea manager wants assurances from the club that a midfielder of Fabregas’ quality will be signed before he sanctions the 31-year-old’s sale.

The Italian does not want to weaken his options for the second half of the season and recently claimed that Fabregas remains a valued member of his squad at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard is ready to leave in January though and Chelsea president Roman Abramovich is expected to hold talks with the former Arsenal man before agreeing to any sale.

AC Milan are keeping close tabs on the situation and have reportedly prepared a two-and-a-half-year deal for Fabregas.
