Celtic defender Filip Benkovic has insisted that the Bhoys deserve to go through to the knockout stages of the Europa League due to their performances and support from the fans.

Brendan Rodgers’ men will host Group B leaders Red Bull Salzburg at Parkhead on Thursday as they aim to book their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

The visitors are unbeaten across all competitions this term and boast a 100 per cent record in the Europa League, after winning all of their games so far this season in the competition.

However, Celtic, who are currently on the back of a good run of form, will have to put an end to the visitors’ flawless record if they are to proceed to the next round of the Europa League.

Benkovic, who arrived at Parkhead on a season-long deal from Leicester City in the summer, thinks that Celtic deserve to go through to the next round due to their performances and the unparalleled support from the fans.

The Croatian also thanked the fans for the priceless atmosphere they create at Parkhead during games and admitted that it helps in bringing the best out of the players on big occasions.

“The moments when you are playing on the pitch at Celtic Park are priceless”, Benkovic told the official matchday programme in an interview.

“The fans always create an amazing atmosphere.

“I believe this game will be great and the fans will make for a very special night.

"Playing in that noise brings the best out of us as players, it gives us strength and confidence.

“Getting into the knockout stages will be great for the team and the fans.

“This club deserves to be in the next round because the team has played well and the fans are amazing.”

Celtic are currently three points ahead of third-placed RB Leipzig, who face Rosenborg at home on Thursday, and can qualify for the knockout stages if they manage to avoid defeat against Red Bull Salzburg.
