Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has stressed the need for someone to kill games for the Gers after their dominance against Hamilton at Ibrox only resulted in a 1-0 win.

Gerrard's side were dominant on home turf and took the lead in just the third minute through Daniel Candeias.

Rangers had numerous opportunities to extend their advantage over the visitors, but could not do so, despite finishing the game having enjoyed over 20 corners and 15 shots at goal, compared to just two from Hamilton.

Gerrard is desperate for a killer in his Rangers team and admits his plan to rest key players went out of the window because the Gers could not score a second.

"Killer instinct [is missing]. That little bit of quality, someone who's going to step up and kill the game", the boss said on Rangers TV.

"We should have won this game after five minutes. We should have been two or three nil up. We had 21 corners today. I am guessing we had about 30 crosses into the box.

"So we are playing well, up to a certain point, but someone's got to want to score a goal or assist a goal to kill Hamilton.

"As soon as that game goes to 2-0 I can get James Tavernier off the pitch because he's played every minute and I can rest people for more important games coming up, but I did not have that luxury.

"So the plan I had in my head went out of the window because we didn't have a killer instinct."

The win has put Rangers top of the Scottish Premiership table on goal difference, ahead of Kilmarnock, while they have played a game more than third placed Celtic, who are just a point behind.

Rangers next travel to Hibernian on Wednesday night.
