Steven Gerrard says Rangers want to make sure they are still at the top of the Scottish Premiership table following their meeting with Celtic at the end of the month.

Rangers climbed to the top of the league table following their 1-0 win over Hamilton and have ignited hopes of a title challenge to Celtic in the second half of the season.

The Scottish league goes into a winter break at the end of December and Rangers have a set of four tough fixtures ahead of them before the players put their feet up for three weeks.

They will face Hibernian twice and have a trip to St. Johnstone before finishing off the year with a home game against Glasgow rivals Celtic at Ibrox on 29th December.

Gerrard wants his players to show mental strength and laid out his ambition to be at the top after the Old Firm derby at home.

“It's always about mentality”, Gerrard said in a press conference.

“We need to get some consistency and get as many points as we can before the break.

“The next set of games are key to set us up going into the new year.

"We want to be on top or as close to the top as possible come the break.”

Celtic have won the last seven league titles on the trot and have racked up the last seven domestic trophies on offer.
