Leeds United Under-23 coach Danny Schofield insists that the side need to find a way to breach teams that play a low block.

The Whites were beaten 2-0 by Barnsley on Monday afternoon and despite dominating possession of the ball, Leeds could not test the Tykes’ defence.

With the defeat, Leeds dropped to third in the Professional Development League table and are behind Birmingham City and Burnley.

Just like the senior team, the Leeds Under-23 side have played possession-based football this season, but have come undone against sides who stick a defensive set-up.

Schofield has urged his side to make the best use of transitions against teams that play a defensive game and feels the youngsters need be more effective in the build-up collectively as a team to find the solution.

“Every game we face, it’s pretty much we have the ball and we are trying to beak teams down”, Schofield said on LUTV after the loss against Barnsley.

“We need to improve, we need to be better at breaking that block down.

"We need to be better at winning the ball in the transition as well.

“I think when we lose it we need to win it back a lot quicker and a lot more aggressively.

“And also on the counter attacks as well, we need to improve that area. But it’s not individual players, that’s a team, which we are.

“We build play, we have the ball all the time, in the transitions as well, we need to be collectively more effective.”

Leeds are still level on points with the top two sides in the league table and are only behind on goal difference, and they will hope to bounce back when they take on Hull City in their next game.
