Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has lauded the impact of goalkeeper Allan McGregor at Ibrox and pointed out the shot-stopper is one angry man.

Rangers moved to bring McGregor back to Ibrox in the summer and he has not let Steven Gerrard down, with a series of stunning performances between the sticks.

The 36-year-old is expected to play a big role on Saturday when Rangers take on rivals Celtic in an Old Firm clash.

Ferguson, who played for Rangers from 1983 to 1990, believes that on the pitch McGregor is angry, never shy to tell his team-mates what to do and determined to drive the side on to success.

"Listen, he's been brilliant since he came back to the club", Ferguson said on Open Goal.

"I tell you what, he's an angry man as well! Have you noticed? At times he's giving it to the players.

"He's just trying to drive them on and if he's not happy with things then he's really vocal.

"He's an experienced guy, an experienced player, but still at the top of his game, not just for Rangers, for Scotland as well.

"So he's going to be huge for Rangers."

McGregor has knocked Wes Foderingham out of the starting spot between the sticks and has won praise from Gerrard throughout the current campaign.

The veteran custodian is expected to start when Celtic arrive for the league clash on Saturday.
