Newcastle United have made a move for AC Milan winger Diego Laxalt with a view to signing him in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old joined the Rossoneri last summer for Genoa, but has struggled to become a regular feature of their team this season.
Only four of his 19 league appearances this season have come from the starting eleven and Laxalt has struggled to become a key player for the Rossoneri.
It has been claimed that he has an opportunity to leave AC Milan for England this month as a Premier League club are interested in signing him.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Newcastle have probed the possibility of signing Laxalt through an intermediary and are expected to make a proposal soon.
Rafael Benitez is interested in taking Laxalt to England as he has the ability to play at left-back, a position he wants to strengthen in the winter window.
The Uruguayan has a good relationship with Gennaro Gattuso and for the moment, he is not keen to leave AC Milan.
The AC Milan hierarchy look poised to have to make a decision over whether to keep Laxalt or push him to go.
