Fiorentina have ruled out the possibility of signing Lazar Markovic from Liverpool during the January transfer window.

Markovic’s career has been in limbo since the summer when his move to Anderlecht broke down at the last possible moment on transfer deadline day.

The Serbian winger has not been part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the season and away from Liverpool’s exhilarating title race, the player has been training with the reserves.

Markovic is desperate to leave the Reds in January and Liverpool are open to offers for the winger during the winter window.

A move to Italy with Fiorentina was mooted, but according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, that that door has been slammed shut by the Serie A outfit’s recent transfer dealings.

La Viola signed Luis Muriel on loan from Sevilla earlier this week and the Colombian’s arrival meant their squad do not have space for one more player outside the European Union (EU).

Serbia is not part of the EU and therefore, Fiorentina will not be pursuing the signature of Markovic unless they offload someone from their non-EU quota this month.

Markovic is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer next summer.
