Rangers director of football Mark Allen is hopeful that getting business done early on in the transfer window will help the Gers hit the ground running after the winter break.

Steven Gerrard’s men moved level on points with Celtic, who have a game in hand, at the summit of the Scottish Premiership table after their 1-0 win in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox.

The Light Blues managed to finish a memorable first half of the season on a high after coming on leaps and bounds since the appointment of Gerrard in the summer.

Despite their sparkling start to life under Gerrard, Rangers know they need to strengthen further if they are to usurp Celtic from the domestic throne.

The arrival of Jermaine Defoe, who has joined the club on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth, is expected to boost the team’s attack, while Steven Davis has landed on loan to add to the midfield options.

Allen, who was delighted with the signing of Defoe, claimed that getting business done early in the transfer window will help Rangers hit the ground running quicker and sharper after the break.

“It’s really helpful to get work on this front done early in the transfer window because it means we should be able to hit the ground running after the winter break”, Allen told the club’s official website.

“I believe that is vitally important.”

Defoe and Davis will be looking to quickly establish themselves in the starting eleven at Ibrox.
