Chelsea are closing in on finalising the signature of AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to Spanish daily Marca.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is a firm fan of Higuain and was keen to take him to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but the Argentine ultimately linked up with AC Milan on loan from Juventus.

Sarri has not lost his desire to sign Higuain and it is claimed the Argentine has given the green light to the move.

Now Chelsea are closing in on finalising a move which will see the striker continue his career in the Premier League.

It is also suggested that the arrival of Higuain will see the door firmly opened for Alvaro Morata to depart.

The Spanish striker has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and appears to have lost the confidence of Sarri.

He has been linked with a return to Italy, where he played for Juventus.

Higuain meanwhile will battle Olivier Giroud to get the nod as Chelsea's main striker.
