Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has feels that Virgil van Dijk is hungry for clean sheets and feels his mentality is rubbing off on the others playing alongside him.

The Reds returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats during their 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were successful in grinding out a result away from home as they secured maximum points courtesy of a successful penalty converted by Mohamed Salah in the second half.

The result meant that Liverpool have kept 13 clean sheets in the division this term and boast of the meanest defence, after conceding just 10 goals from their 22 league games.

And Warnock insisted that a lot of the credit has to go to Van Dijk as the defender is hungry for clean sheets and that the mentality is rubbing off on the others playing alongside him at the club.

“I did the commentary on the game there and watching Van Dijk and how he organises the players is brilliant to watch”, Warnock said on LFC TV following the win.

“It means everything to him to get a clean sheet and I think he’s bought that effect into the other players, they’ve had to get used to that as well and understand why it means so much to them.

“You can see what it means to the players to get that clean sheet as well.”

Liverpool, who are aiming for a first league title since 1990, will next face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League.
