Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has claimed that Jurgen Klopp will know the Reds need to strengthen the squad with a striker in the summer to improve their quality up front.

The Reds ended a run of two straight defeats when they registered a narrow 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League.

Liverpool were made to work hard for the result as they dug out maximum points, courtesy of a second half penalty from Mohamed Salah.

However, the backs to the wall approach adopted by the hosts made life difficult for Liverpool, who could have benefitted from having other options on the bench to break the Seagulls down.

Aldridge, who represented Liverpool as a striker in his playing days, claimed that Klopp will know the Reds need to strengthen their attacking department with the addition of a striker in the summer.

“Jurgen Klopp will know further down the line he will need a striker”, Aldridge wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.

“The squad is a very good one, but Liverpool need a bit more quality in reserve and up front is the big one.”

The former Reds striker stressed that both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are unlikely to enjoy an extended future at Anfield and admitted Rhian Brewster is still only getting ready to jump into senior football.

“Daniel Sturridge’s contract is up in the summer and you can see him moving on, while young Rhian Brewster is yet to play for the Liverpool first team”, he opined.

“Divock Origi, for me, is a no-no.

"I think Liverpool will need more than what the Belgium international offers, so it is an area where Klopp will have to look at [in the summer].”

Liverpool, who are currently four points ahead of Manchester City, will next face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League.
