Benoit Pedretti has backed Paris Saint-Germain Idrissa Gueye to hit the ground running in the French capital if he makes the move from Everton this month.

Gueye, who played alongside Pedretti during his formative years at Lille in northern France, has emerged as a priority target for PSG during the transfer window.

The Senegalese is willing to return to Ligue 1 with PSG and the French champions have been in touch with Everton.

Thomas Tuchel has identified Gueye as the answer to PSG’s concerns in the middle of the park, but will have to meet Everton’s asking price, that has inflated after the interest from Paris.

In the wake of the speculation surrounding Gueye’s future, Pedretti, his former team-mate, has backed the Everton midfielder to be an ideal fit at PSG for a number of reasons.

The Frenchman claimed that Gueye has the right mentality to represent PSG and insisted his previous experience of Ligue 1 and the ability to communicate in French makes him the perfect candidate.

“It's a very good move for Paris as well”, Pedretti told Eurosport France.

“In a team, you need water carriers and it's not negative when I say it. And he is an exceptional water carrier.

“He has the right mentality. He does not talk much, but he is willing to do the dirty work for the team.

“He has the quality to play in Paris, because he knows the league and he speaks French so there will be no problems of integration.

“In addition to all that, he is fit and everything is therefore positive for his arrival.”

Gueye, who joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2016, has a contract at Goodison Park that runs until 2022.
