Wigan Athletic have had a bid rejected by Nottingham Forest for defender Danny Fox, according to Sky Sports News.

The 32-year-old defender is out of contract in the summer, but has continued to remain a lynchpin of the squad.

Wigan are interested in signing the defender and Latics even tabled a bid to test Nottingham Forest’s resolve, but they have received a negative response.

Forest have rejected the offer from Wigan and are not considering selling any of their players yet.

Martin O’Neill took charge of the club on Tuesday morning and the new manager does not want to make any transfer decisions before assessing the squad.

The new Nottingham Forest boss is expected to take calls on players towards the end of the window but for the moment Fox remains at the club.

However, Fox’s contract situation could play a part later in the window and Nottingham Forest could look to cash in rather than see him walk away on a free transfer in the summer.

The 32-year-old full-back has started in all 18 Championship games this season where he was available for selection.
