On loan Rangers striker Ryan Hardie has revealed that he tries to grasp as much as he can from senior players, and was picking Jermain Defoe’s brains after training with the new January signing in the Gers’ warm weather camp in Tenerife.

Hardie returned to Rangers from Livingston to train with the rest of the squad, before signing a one-year contract extension with the club and departing for Livingston on another loan spell until the end of the season.

The 21-year old was in good form for Livingston before the winter break as he scored five times in six games, and helped the Lions to climb up to seventh in the Scottish Premiership table.

Hardie has explained that he tried to observe Defoe in training in Tenerife, and feels he needs to learn from the experienced players.

“I’ve watched Jermain Defoe scoring goals in the Premier League for years and now he’s at Rangers”, Hardie was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“He met us out in Tenerife and trained the first day, and it was really good playing alongside him.

“I managed to get on the same team as him a few times and there’s a lot of things I’ll learn from him.

“I was picking his brains.

"One thing I need to do as a young lad is look up to the older boys and look for advice.”

Hardie will hope to impress for Livingston in the second half of the season and get into Rangers first team contention for next season.
