Former Scotland international Alan Rough believes Michael O’Halloran was not given a chance to succeed at Rangers and has backed the attacker to score goals on his return to Scottish football.

O’Halloran has just been snapped up by St Johnstone following his departure from Australian side Melbourne City.

The former Scotland Under-21 international played 38 times for Rangers, but managed just three goals for the Light Blues.

O’Halloran moved to St. Johnstone on loan from Rangers in the summer of 2017, and had a good spell with the side as he mustered five goals in 16 league appearances.

After returning to Rangers in the January transfer window in 2018, O’Halloran failed to make his mark and subsequently left for Australia with Melbourne City.

Rough is a firm fan of O'Halloran's talents and feels that Rangers did not give him opportunities to shine.

“I don't think he was given a chance at Rangers”, Rough said on PLZ Soccer.

“We all saw what he did at St Johnstone and he was brought to Rangers because of what he did at St Johnstone.

“For whatever reason, formation or the manager just didn't fancy him, it never worked for him.

“But we all know what he can do and he certainly will score goals.”

St. Johnstone were impressive in the first half of the campaign, and will hope to kick on in the coming months and maintain their position in the top six.
