Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has conceded that the Gers need to find a way to score goals without Alfredo Morelos in their team, and urged Kyle Lafferty and Jermain Defoe to step up.

Morelos served the first game of his three-match suspension against Kilmarnock on Saturday when Rangers only managed a 0-0 draw in a Scottish Cup clash.

The Colombian received a straight red card against Aberdeen last week and will miss Saturday’s clash against St. Johnstone and the replay against Kilmarnock next week at Ibrox.

Morelos has been Rangers’ talisman up front this season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions, and Ferguson conceded that Steven Gerrard’s side miss him as he is the fulcrum of the team.

He has urged Defoe and Lafferty to get the goals for Rangers, but admits it will remain hard to replace Morelos in Gerrard’s eleven.

Ferguson said on PLZ Soccer, when asked about Morelos: “He’s a massive miss.

“I think Rangers were solid enough defensively but for me, he is a massive miss.

“I don’t care what anybody says, he’s the main man for Rangers and they need to find a solution if he is suspended.

“That’s where Defoe and Kyle Lafferty need to step in and start scoring goals, but he is their main player and he is being badly missed.”

Rangers will be keen for other players to stand up this weekend when they lock horns with St Johnstone.
