Queens Park Rangers boss Steve McClaren has lauded his players for conjuring a special performance on their way to a heroic win over Leeds United on Tuesday.

The Hoops put an end to a dismal run of seven straight defeats in the Championship since the turn of the year with a 1-0 win over Leeds under the lights on Tuesday at Loftus Road.

Luke Freeman scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute with a neat finish from close range, before the visitors stepped up their game in search of an equaliser by forcing fine saves from Joe Lumley in goal.

However, QPR held on valiantly to secure maximum points and denied the Whites an opportunity to return to pole position in the race for promotion from the Championship.

In the aftermath of the Hoops’ commendable win, McClaren has lauded his players for producing a special performance on the night and securing a heroic win over Leeds.

The QPR boss admitted his team were favoured by luck, but insisted they deserved it for their determination and grit to turn the tide, after what has been a dismal run of form in recent months.

“I’m so pleased for the players because we’ve endured a lot so this one is a special performance and a special result”, McClaren told the club’s official website.

“It was a heroic performance.

"We got the luck but they are a very good team who created chances.

“It was a great performance and we finally got our just rewards for it.

“That is our eighth game in 24 days and what a magnificent effort.

"We’ve had so many kicks in the teeth but to respond as we did was brilliant.

“We said it would turn, we got the luck, but we also played very well.”

QPR will next face Brentford away from home at Griffin Park on Saturday in the Championship.
