Rangers loan star Ryan Kent has conceded that he feels the ongoing season was a missed opportunity considering the quality of the squad at Ibrox, but insists the Gers are moving in the right direction.

Kent, who followed Steven Gerrard from Liverpool to Rangers last summer, has established himself as a first team regular at Ibrox this term.

The 22-year-old featured prominently for the Gers as they embarked on a memorable run in Europe and remained within touching distance of Celtic in the league during the first half of the season.

However, the Light Blues suffered a dramatic dip in form since the turn of the year and their defeat to Celtic on Sunday now leaves them 13 points adrift of their rivals in the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Gers, who failed to progress beyond the group stage of the Europa League, were also knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup by Aberdeen last month.

And Kent has conceded that he feels the current season was a missed opportunity for Rangers, especially considering the amount of quality they have in the first team squad at Ibrox.

However, despite the disappointment of falling off the pace in the second half of the season, Kent stressed Rangers are definitely heading in the right direction under Gerrard at the moment.

“Yes [I feel this season was a missed opportunity], because I think it’s a really good squad”, Kent told Rangers TV.

“The whole way through the squad is very good and we showed in early stages of the season, the potential of what could be this season.

“I think we’ve let ourselves down at certain times and probably a little too much left to do now to really claw things back, but I think going forward, this club’s definitely in the right direction.”

Rangers will next face Motherwell away from home in the Premiership on Sunday at Fir Park.
