Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has praised Jon Flanagan after the full-back's performance in the Gers' 3-0 win at Fir Park.

Flanagan was named at left-back for the Scottish Premiership encounter against Motherwell, a game which saw a Scott Arfield hat-trick settle things in the visitors' favour.

Gerrard was pleased with what he saw from the former Liverpool defender, who has played little football this season, and believes that the 26-year-old turned in a superb performance in a light blue shirt.

The Rangers boss, reflecting on the victory, told the club's in-house TV channel: "So I am very pleased as it was a good, away, solid performance.

"I have to mention Jon Flanagan as I thought he was excellent again today having missed so much football.

"So fair play to Flanno."

The win at Motherwell means that Rangers have taken full advantage of Celtic dropping points on Saturday and moved to within eleven points of Neil Lennon's league leaders.

Next up for the Gers as they bid to finish the season strongly is a trip to take on Craig Levein's Hearts side at Tynecastle.

It remains to be seen if Flanagan will keep his place.
