Former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City star Michael Brown believes that if Sergio Aguero manages to play anywhere near to the level he managed to reach against Liverpool in January, the Lilywhites are going to have a tough evening tonight.

Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs will meet the Manchester giants in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Etihad Stadium tonight, with the tie tilted slightly in favour of the visitors, who won the first leg last week 1-0.

But Manchester City will start as favourites to progress, despite Spurs' advantage, and Brown sees striker Aguero as a clear danger.

Reflecting on the match against Liverpool in January, where the former Atletico Madrid star was impressive, finding the back of the net and thus helping his side beat the Reds, the 42-year-old feels that if Aguero manages to reach that level he can cause problems for Spurs.

“For City, Sergio Aguero [will be the key man]", Brown told Tottenham's official website.

"Sometimes you don’t see him but against Liverpool, in the biggest game so far [City’s win in the Premier League in January], he ran, he harried, he pressed. It was almost like he said ‘I’ll show you’.

"If he plays anywhere near that, Spurs have a problem.

"For me, you don’t always see him as an all-rounder.

"Yes, he puts the ball in the net, but that night, he had more to his game."

Brown also pointed to two other Manchester City stars as influential, while stressing the importance of the full-back areas.

"Fernandinho will hold, Kevin De Bruyne makes things happen.

"Full-back areas are key for City."

Tottenham will be back at the Etihad Stadium just days after the Champions League meeting as they are due to play Manchester City in a Premier League encounter on Saturday.
