Tottenham Hotspur star Moussa Sissoko has admitted he was in the dark over whether Spurs had knocked out Manchester City and feared the worst before being told by a member of the coaching staff his side were through.
Manchester City and Tottenham played out a dramatic Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday night which involved five goals in the first 20 minutes and VAR drama in stoppage time.
Tottenham were on their way to the semi-final of the competition when stoppage time rolled in as they were ahead on away goals, but Raheem Sterling appeared to have clinched it for the home side with a goal.
Amidst the Manchester City celebrations, VAR determined that Sergio Aguero was offside in the build-up to the goal and the euphoria inside the Etihad came to a screeching halt.
Sissoko, who hobbled off the pitch with an injury during the game, admits that he left for the dressing room after Sterling scored as he felt very disappointed.
The midfielder admits that it was a while after a member of the coaching staff entered the dressing room and told him about the goal being disallowed and Tottenham going through.
The Frenchman was quoted as saying by French outlet MaxiFoot: “I was on the bench, I saw the goal that made it 5-3.
“I was so dejected that I want straight into the dressing room, I was all alone and no one had accompanied me.
“There was no TV and in my head, we were eliminated.
“It was one of the coaching staff members who entered the dressing room at the end and jumped at me saying, ‘we did it’.
“I said, ‘how did we do it?’ and at that time he told me that the goal was disallowed.”
He added: “I was handed a shirt, I forgot my injury and I ran out to join the others.
“I didn’t want to miss the celebrations of such a moment, it was an incredible emotional shock.”
Tottenham will now face Ajax over two legs for a place in the final.
