Leeds United legend Eddie Gray is expecting Wigan Athletic to play a more open game against the Whites on Good Friday at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire giants are second in the league table and are close to clinching an automatic promotion berth with four games left in the Championship season.

They are still only three points ahead of third placed Sheffield United and Leeds will be looking for the maximum points when they host Wigan at Elland Road on Good Friday.

Wigan are still embroiled in the relegation battle and are in need of points, and Gray believes that the Latics will not just sit back when they play Leeds.

He believes Paul Cook is an attacking manager and will be acutely aware that his side could struggle to hold back Leeds for the 90 minutes if they set up defensively.

The former White is expecting Wigan to try and put pressure on the Leeds defence, leading to an open game.

Gray said on LUTV: “I think the manager, who has done a good job at Wigan, his philosophy is let’s get at them.

“I don’t think he’ll come to Elland Road and think we can sit back, defend and we’ll snatch one.

“He’ll be thinking we can’t defend against them for 90 minutes, we have got to attack them and try and put them under pressure.

“And that’s why I think it is going to be an open game and if it’s that then we have players who can go forward and cause them many problems.”

Leeds won 2-1 at the DW Stadium when they faced Wigan earlier in the season.
