Eddie Gray believes Pablo Hernandez is the one player who cannot be replaced in the current Leeds United team.

The veteran Spanish attacker has been hugely influential at Leeds this season as the club close in on automatic promotion to the Premier League with four games left to play.

Hernandez has scored 12 goals, has the same number of assists to his name in the Championship and has been the creative hub of Marcelo Bielsa’s forward-thinking side.

Gray believes Leeds have the squad to compensate most areas of the starting eleven with quality back-ups, but admits that they do not have anyone who could replace Hernandez.

The Leeds legend feels Hernandez is the key to unlocking opposition defences at home when teams decide to play with ten men behind the ball against the Whites at Elland Road.

The former White said on LUTV: “When I look at the side, the majority of the areas we can fill in.

“But are we going to like playing without Pablo? No, I wouldn’t, even in these games.

“Especially at home when teams sit a little bit deeper against us, making it difficult – he can unlock the door, definitely.

“He has got the talent, ability and fitness wise, he looks after himself and is a very important player.”

Bielsa will hope Hernandez continues to exert his influence for the four games left and pushes Leeds over the line in the promotion race.
