The agent of Tottenham Hotspur target Nicolo Zaniolo has revealed that Roma have been slow to pick up talks on a new contract for his client, leaving him surprised.

Zaniolo, who was used as makeweight in the deal that took Radja Nainggolan to Inter last summer, has been making considerable strides for Roma so far this term.

As such, the Italian has attracted the interest from several clubs, who have zeroed in on him as a priority target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich have already seen a bid rejected while the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Chelsea have all turned their heads towards Zaniolo.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is claimed to have been in touch with Roma to work out a deal, but the Italian outfit are keen to keep Zaniolo and have been looking to lock him down on a new contract, something director Francesco Totti recently hinted was close to being done.

However, Claudio Vigorelli, who is the official representative of Zaniolo, says there has been no contact with Roma since sporting director Monchi left.

The agent admitted he is surprised by the lack of urgency shown by Roma and added they have been waiting for a call from the club.

“I'm surprised”, Vigorelli told Italian daily Corriere dello Sera.

“The last contact with Roma dates back to the time of Monchi.

“We have been waiting for some time for someone from Roma to call us.”

The agent's admission will give encouragement to Zaniolo's suitors that talks on a new contract are not as far down the line as had been suggested.
