Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes that Ajax would have a better chance of defeating Barcelona than Liverpool if they make the Champions League final.
Ajax have been the surprise package of the Champions League this season and have beaten Real Madrid and Juventus on their way to the semi-finals of the competition.
They are now in control of their semi-final tie against Tottenham after registering a 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night.
Van Gaal has already said that Ajax can beat Tottenham in the semi-final tie, but admits that playing in the final would be a completely different scenario.
Barcelona and Liverpool are in the other semi-final and the Dutchman believes that Ajax have a better chance of winning the Champions League if they take on the Catalan giants.
“It depends who goes through”, Van Gaal told Dutch broadcaster NOS when asked whether Ajax can win the Champions League.
“They can against Tottenham. Ajax play great football and are one of the nicest teams to watch in Europe.
“In the final, Ajax have a better chance against Barcelona than against Liverpool.”
Liverpool lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid last season, but would start as favourites if they meet Ajax in this year's showpiece.
