Napoli have held a positive round of talks with the entourage of Arsenal linked midfielder Pablo Fornals, but no agreement is yet in place for him to move to Italy.

The 23-year-old midfielder’s future at Villarreal has been under the scanner since January when several clubs wanted to snare him away from the Spanish outfit.

Arsenal showed an interest in him in the winter window and are rumoured to be still considering making a move for him in the ongoing summer transfer window.

But Napoli are the ones who have been putting in all the legwork to sign Fornals and recently met the entourage of the player to discuss a potential move.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A giants had positive conversations with the player’s representatives and are confident of striking a deal to sign him.

But an agreement is still not in place as Napoli are still not prepared to pay the €26.5m release clause in the midfielder’s contract.

The Serie A giants want a discount, something Villarreal are not prepared to consider at the moment.

With Napoli still not ready to do a deal, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will firm up their interest.

But the Gunners will only know their summer transfer budget after the Europa League final against Chelsea later this month.
