Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta has emerged as one of the contenders to become the next Lyon coach.

Lyon are in the market for a new coach as Bruno Genesio will leave the club at the end of the season.

They have brought in former midfielder Juninho as their new sporting director and he is expected to play a major role in identifying the new coach.

The Brazilian has been looking at a number of candidates who could take charge of Lyon this summer and his eyes have wandered towards the bench of Premier League champions Manchester City.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Manchester City assistant boss Arteta is on the French giants’ radar for their new coach.

The Spaniard has been a key part of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City coaching staff and has played a major role in their last two title-winning campaigns.

Arteta held talks with Arsenal to become their manager last summer, but the club eventually appointed the more experienced Unai Emery.
