Lou Macari believes that Manchester United’s new-look defence will face a stern test when they take on Wolves next Monday night.

Manchester United kept just two clean sheets at home in the Premier League last season and had the worst defensive record amongst the top six sides.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent big money to bring in a new right-back in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and centre-back Harry Maguire to reinforce his backline ahead of the new season.

The duo put in a solid performance on Sunday to earn a clean sheet in Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Many believe sterner tests will come to actually reveal the mettle of the new Manchester United defence and Macari feels they might not have to wait too long to see what they are made of.

He believes Wolves will show how much Manchester United have improved as the Midlands side played them off the park at Molineux last season.

Macari said on MUTV: “I do not think we will have to wait very long to know.

“The defenders are at their best when they are up against it and I think next Monday night will be a real test for all the defenders.

“Every time we have played Wolves I have got to say I have been shocked to see how well they have played.

“They played us off the park at Wolves and here at Old Trafford, they were good.

“Next Monday night will tell us a lot.”

Manchester United lost at Molineux last season and earned only a point at Old Trafford against Wolves.
