Former Leeds United boss Steve Evans wanted to land Whites striker Ryan Edmondson in the summer.

The 18-year-old striker had been tipped by some to head away from Elland Road on loan to boost his first team experience, but as the windows firmly closed on 2nd September, he was still on the books at Leeds.

Edmondson has found game time at a premium though and has played just 35 minutes of football in the Championship this season.

Leeds did have options to loan him out and, according to The Athletic, former Whites boss Evans wanted to take the striker to League One side Gillingham.

Evans was looking for reinforcements and is well aware of Edmondson's potential, meaning he was keen to take him to Gillingham for the season.

Leeds though did not entertain the move and Evans was forced to look at other options to add to his attack.

Edmondson will be hoping to be handed more playing time by Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa going forward and if it is not forthcoming, it remains to be seen if the Whites might consider loaning him out in the January transfer window.

Evans' Gillingham sit 16th in the League One standings after nine games and were involved in an ill-tempered clash with Ipswich Town last weekend.

The former Whites boss was slammed by Ipswich manager Paul Lambert after exchanges between both benches throughout the afternoon.
