Atalanta legend Marino Magrin has expressed his wish to see his side face Liverpool or Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Italian outfit made it to the last 16 of the competition in their maiden Champions League campaign when they beat Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 on Wednesday night.

The achievement was historic in nature as Atalanta became the first team to reach the knockout rounds after losing their first three group games and only had a point before the last two fixtures in the group.

Magrin has lauded the enormity of Atalanta’s achievement and is now keen to see his former side face Liverpool or Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.

He does admit that drawing other teams should give them a better chance of making it to the quarter-finals.

“Atalanta have made it into the history books”, Magrin told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

“And I would like it if they play against Barcelona or Liverpool.

“Of course, Leipzig or Valencia would be better in terms of aspiring to be in the quarter-finals.”

Atalanta could face Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Barcelona, RB Leipzig or Valencia in the last 16.
