Newcastle United are amongst a clutch of clubs who are interested in snapping up Strasbourg midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko, but the player is not yet sold on swapping sides in next week's January transfer window.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has been a key player for the Ligue 1 club, but has been going through a rough period after losing his place in the starting eleven this season.

His representatives met Strasbourg last month to discuss a contract extension, however the club are yet to table an offer of a new deal.

The situation has led to speculation over his future and several clubs have already been in touch with his agents over signing him in the January transfer window.

And according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Newcastle are one of the clubs who are keen to take him to the Premier League in the rapidly approaching window.

Steve Bruce is interested in signing a dynamic midfielder in the winter window and Sissoko is one of the names the club are closely tracking at the moment.

Clubs from Germany and Italy are also alive to the situation and are considering snapping him up when the window opens next month.

For the moment, the player wants to stay at Strasbourg and continue to develop .

A move elsewhere in January has not been taken fully off the table though and it remains to be seen how he might react if Newcastle come in with a firm offer.
