Dutch journalist Leon ten Voorde has claimed that Wout Weghorst is ready to take a pay cut to join FC Twente in the summer but conceded that Burnley will not let him go on a free transfer.

Weghorst claimed earlier this year that his boyhood dream is to play at Twente and the Dutch giants are keen to sign him next summer.

He is currently on loan at Hoffenheim from Burnley and will have a year left on his contract at Turf Moor at the end of the season.

Ten Voorde insisted that the transfer is now dependent on how much money Burnley will want as a transfer fee and he is certain that they will not let him leave on a free transfer.

He stressed that agreeing on personal terms should not be a problem as even though Weghorst would not earn anywhere near his current salary, he is prepared to take a pay cut to get his move to Twente.

Ten Voorde said on TC/Tubantia’s De Warming-Up podcast: “The ball is in Burnley’s court.

“They won’t let him go for free, but he is a big earner there.

“Burnley are willing to sell Weghorst but they [Twente] have no indication yet from Burnley how much he will cost.

“That’s [salary] not a problem as he wants to go to Twente.

“Yes, but then he will not earn anywhere near the salary that he gets in England and Germany.

“He will accept a big cut. You can say a lot about him but I think it’s nice that a boy who really wants to play for a club and then does that.”

It remains to be seen whether Burnley agree to let the forward join Twente for a reasonable transfer fee.
