Portsmouth assistant manager Jon Harley has admitted that getting promoted with Pompey is the most special moment of his football career.

The south coast club have been promoted to the Championship again after a 12-year absence from the second tier of English football.

The 3-2 win over Barnsley at Fratton Park on Tuesday night confirmed their promotion back to the Championship as League One winners.

Harley, who came to Portsmouth along with manager John Mousinho in February last year, conceded that it is the most special moment of his career and he never felt such emotions before.

The former defender played for Portsmouth as well during his playing career when the club were in the doldrums and admitted that it feels good to be part of the staff that got them promoted back to the Championship.

Harley told BBC Radio Solent: “Throughout my whole career in football, I have never had a moment like this.

“This is so special. I can’t even hear you, it is unbelievable.

“Weirdly, when the club were in a really bad place I was here and now I have come back and now I am a part of going up again.

“This is such a good feeling.”

Portsmouth will now look to close out the season in style with a home game against Wigan this weekend before taking a trip to Lincoln City on the final day of the regular League One campaign.
