Atalanta legend Glenn Stromberg hopes that Liverpool do not play their match of the year when they take on the Serie A side in the Europa League tonight.

The Italians will head into the game at the Gewiss Stadium with confidence having thrashed the Reds 3-0 at Anfield last week.

However, given the gigantic stature of the Merseyside club, Stromberg is not taking things for granted.

He hopes that Liverpool do not have their match of the year and Atalanta play the same way they did at Anfield, not resorting to a defensive mindset.

It will also be important that there are no individual mistakes on the part of the hosts to help Jurgen Klopp’s team capitalise, the 64-year-old insists.

“Liverpool I hope will not play the match of the year”, Stromberg told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

“They have a very high standard, I have seen them turn so many games around, so we will still need a great Atalanta.

“But I think they will play in the same way, not closing in defence.

“And then not giving anything away, with few individual mistakes.”

The 3-0 loss at Anfield in the first leg shocked Liverpool and the Reds are staring at the prospect of an exit from the Europa League unless they can produce a remarkable comeback tonight.
