Former Netherlands star Ibrahim Afellay has insisted that Ajax must show patience and wait for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to become available.

Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United has continued to remain under the scanner with his side struggling to get desired results.

While they have reached the FA Cup final, Manchester United have won just two of their last nine league games and are sitting sixth in the Premier League table at the moment.

They are mathematically out of contention for Champions League qualification and are now in a fight to remain involved in European football for next season.

There are suggestions that Ten Hag is likely to be shown the door and Afellay believes Ajax should wait for that to happen.

He urged the Dutch giants to show patience and wait for the Manchester United manager to become available rather than going for a foreigner who does not understand Ajax.

Afellay said on Studio Voetbal: “If you have a little more patience, you have a good chance that Ten Hag will be available.

“Ajax must now always choose trusted people who care about the club.

“In the past, just like this season, they have given the club away to foreigners. We have all seen how that has turned out.

“They have to bring back people who want the best for Ajax.”

Ajax are reportedly in talks with Graham Potter, who has been touted as a replacement for Ten Hag at Old Trafford as well.
