Blackburn Rovers have won the race to sign Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed, who has also been linked with Bristol City.

The Ewood Park outfit are working to strengthen their squad before the transfer window slams shut on Friday and they have landed 23-year-old Reed.

Reed has signed a contract with Blackburn which will keep him at the club until the end of the season and he will be introduced to the fans at Tuesday night's EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City.

Fellow Championship side Bristol City have also been looking to sign Reed, but it is Rovers who have won the race.

Championship football is not new to Reed, who spent last term on loan at Norwich City and featured on a regular basis for the Canaries.

The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Southampton and made his debut for the Saints in 2013, in an EFL Cup tie against Barnsley.

Reed adds to Tony Mowbray's options at Ewood Park and will look to clock up further playing time to aid his development.
