AC Milan are considering asking Chelsea about the availability of Didier Drogba in the January transfer window.

The Rossoneri are one down in terms of strikers since losing Antonio Cassano to a suspected stroke. While Milan have pledged to keep a spot in the side open for the former Roma forward, the likelihood is that Cassano will be sidelined for at least six months.

And Massimiliano Allegri’s side are thought to believe reinforcements will be needed in January, with Drogba a long standing target of the Italian giants.

The Ivorian continues to feature at Stamford Bridge, but is finding the competition for a first team spot fierce, with Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas having Fernando Torres, Daniel Sturridge, Romelu Lukaku, Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka as options up front.

Drogba has been said to fancy the challenge of playing in Serie A and a switch to the Rossoneri would undoubtedly be an attractive prospect for the ageing hitman.

For Milan, the idea of pairing Drogba up with powerful Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the stuff of dreams.
