Borrusia Dortmund are exploring the possibility of signing left back Aly Cissokho from Lyon.

Cissokho looked to be on the verge of a move to English Premier League outfit Newcastle United, with several sources in France even reporting the player had undergone a medical and held advanced discussions with the Magpies.

However, despite the 24-year-old’s desire to land at St. James’ Park and experience English football, Lyon and Newcastle were unable to come to an agreement over the transfer fee to be paid, with Les Gones eventually refusing to go below a €10M figure.

With Cissokho’s potential move to join Alan Pardew’s men looking dead, another route out of France has emerged however.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Bundesliga champions Dortmund have requested information from Lyon about exactly what it would take to bring the former FC Porto man to the Ruhr.

Dortmund have held an interest in Cissokho for some time and are well aware of the player’s qualities.

The Germans are likely to find though, as Newcastle did, that Lyon are still demanding €10M for the full back.
