Toulouse have secured a coup by signing defender Aymen Abdennour to an extended contract.

The Tunisia international emerged as a target for English Premier League outfits Arsenal and Stoke City recently, with the pair scouting Abdennour in December 2011, when his country faced Catalonia in a friendly match.

Toulouse always remained wary of bids for the 22-year-old talent and have, quickly after the closure of the winter transfer window, convinced Abdennour to ink a fresh contract.

The defender was already under contract with the Ligue 1 side until 2015, but Toulouse have extended this, tying the Tunisian to a deal running until 2016.

Abdennour only landed at Toulouse last summer, joining the club from Etoile du Sahel.

Already however the all-action defender, who specialises as a left back but can operate in the centre too, has cemented a spot in Alain Casanova’s side.
