La Liga side Espanyol are ready to rescue Giovani dos Santos from his Tottenham Hotspur nightmare in the summer.

Dos Santos is out of favour at White Hart Lane and the Mexican has been keen to head to Spain, where he launched his career with Barcelona, for the last seven months.

The midfield schemer came close to joining Sevilla last summer, only for Spurs boss Harry Redknapp to veto the move late in the window, leaving the 22-year-old hoping for a bigger role with the English side.

However, Dos Santos has not seen his playing time increase and was again on the lookout for an exit last month.

Despite much interest though, no concrete option emerged, with the player’s preferred destination of Sevilla having swooped for Jose Antonio Reyes from Atletico Madrid instead.

A move to Villarreal then looked on the cards, but that too failed to come off, leaving Dos Santos kicking his heels in London.

The summer should finally see Dos Santos’ exit from White Hart Lane however, with the Mexican having just a single year left on his contract when that point is reached.

And Barcelona-based outfit Espanyol want to snap up the 22-year-old, with spadework being put in now to ensure a move can come about.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men must do their bit on the pitch to make a swoop for Dos Santos achievable though, with Espanyol hoping for Champions League qualification to open up new revenue streams which would fund the player’s arrival.

Espanyol currently sit fifth in La Liga, but are level on points with fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao.
