Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with a swoop for Inter shot-stopper Julio Cesar, hot on the heels of their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The arrival of Samir Handanovic from Udinese this summer promises to dislodge Cesar from the number 1 spot at the Nerazzurri and Inter are mooted as being ready to part ways with the Brazilian international.

Since Handanovic put pen to paper, Cesar has been linked with several sides. The shot-stopper was first believed to be a target for AS Roma and AC Milan, but quickly attention turned to England, where Tottenham Hotspur were speculated to have an interest in the Brazilian goalkeeper.

Tottenham are believed to have earmarked Cesar as an option with a move for Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris unlikely, with Los Gones unwilling to lower a €20M asking price.

However, in an interesting development, the Lillywhites’ close rivals the Gunners have also been linked with Cesar, according to Sky Italia.

Arsenal had initially shown interest in Lyon captain Lloris too, but quickly cooled that desire.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger however appears still to want genuine competition at the club for Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and the experienced Cesar could fit the bill.

Where the 32-year-old will play his football next season is still open to question, but having won 64 caps for Brazil and played in over 200 Serie A games for Inter, warming the bench at the San Siro will surely not be on the shot-stopper’s mind.
